PROMOTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CIRCULAR ECONOMY MODEL

Fundación Ecotic was established in 2005 to address the responsibilities related to waste from electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) management of our member companies and organisations, and to work to defend the environment and promote sustainable development and the circular economy through awareness-raising and training of the manufacturers, distributors and users of these
devices.

Over these years we have developed a model which is characterised by its reliability, efficiency and transparency in its management, and thanks to the trust placed in us by our 867 members, we have established ourselves as one of the leading systems in both Spain and Europe. We have managed to do this while maintaining our own identity and remaining faithful to values inspired by the founding  objectives that give meaning to our work.

Our commitment is to continue offering the best solutions in the field of electronic recycling that enable us to move towards a circular economy model. To that end, we are working on the continuous improvement of WEEE management systems both in Spain and in Europe.

For this reason, in 2015 we were founding members of weee Europe, a joint venture based in Germany that enables us to offer a comprehensive solution for the management of WEEE, batteries and accumulators all over the European Union, and to provide the necessary advice for compliance with national requirements in the different countries.

We are also active members of WEEE Forum, the leading international association of Producer Responsibility Organisations, where we
promote studies, research and recommendations aimed at improving and standardising WEEE management criteria and engage in numerous information and awareness-raising initiatives.

Waste management

The primary work that we undertake at Ecotic is the financing and management of our members’ WEEE through our Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO). We are authorised to manage the seven categories of WEEE all over Spain, and to provide solutions for their needs within the European Union.

For that purpose, we develop the systems required for the collection, treatment and control of waste, and we make sure that this management is carried out in the most efficient way possible in order to provide an optimal solution for the fulfilment of our
members’ environmental commitments.

Research and training

In addition to waste management, we carry out studies and research at a Spanish and international level, in order to continue to innovate and improve waste collection, treatment and control systems and to contribute to the development of good practices in
WEEE management at a European level.

Training in correct environmental management for manufacturers, distributors and installers of electrical and electronic equipment is another of the areas in which we work, and we regularly cooperate with Spain’s leading professional associations of installers and distributors.

Outreach and awareness-raising

We undertake numerous information and awareness-raising campaigns to highlight the importance of proper WEEE management, which are aimed at the public and at professional groups involved in the life cycle of appliances.

These initiatives aim to increase knowledge and raise awareness of the rational use of technology and the need to reuse or recycle it when it becomes waste, which are crucial factors in achieving environmental sustainability and the development of a circular economy model.
